If this world is Hashem’s dream — if every part of reality exists inside His thought — then there’s no such thing as random.
Every detail, every moment, every event is there because Hashem is actively “imagining” it into existence right now.
This is what Chassidus calls Hashgacha Pratis — individual Divine Providence. Not just general oversight, but Hashem’s direct involvement in every single detail of the universe.
In a Dream, Nothing Happens by Accident
Think of your own dreams.Every object, every person, every word — all of it is yours. You’re producing every detail in real-time. If a tree is in your dream, it’s because you’re imagining it there. If it’s raining, you’re the one making it rain.
That’s how it is with Hashem — except infinitely more so.
From the biggest galaxies to the smallest grain of sand, from the flow of history to the thought in your head right now — everything is a detail Hashem is deliberately sustaining.
What This Means for Your Life
If Hashem is the One imagining every moment, then:
There is no such thing as coincidence. That “random” encounter, that delay, that small kindness — it’s all part of the picture Hashem is painting.
Your life is being crafted in real time by Someone who knows and loves you. This isn’t cold, detached control. This is personal. If Hashem is “dreaming” this moment, He’s including you in it on purpose.
Even challenges are precise. In a dream, nothing is filler. Every scene serves a purpose. Likewise, every situation in your life is perfectly measured for your growth.
How to Practice Seeing It
Start small: Notice three things today that could be “random,” and ask, “If Hashem is imagining this, what might He want me to notice?”
Reframe delays: If you’re “stuck” in traffic or a long line, try seeing it as part of Hashem’s current “scene” for you.
Watch for patterns: Over time, you’ll start seeing connections you never noticed before.
The More You Notice, the More Real It Becomes
When you first hear about Hashgacha Pratis, it might feel like a nice concept. But when you combine it with the dream metaphor, it becomes much more tangible:
Hashem isn’t remembering the details of your life — He’s imagining them right now.
You’re not a spectator in His plan — you’re an active character He’s writing into every scene.
And once you start seeing Hashem’s hand in the details, something shifts inside you. You stop feeling like life is “happening to you” and start realizing it’s being crafted for you.
