9. The Purpose of It All

At this point in our journey, a big question naturally rises:
What’s the point of all this?
If we’re characters in G‑d’s dream… if He is everything and we are His image… what’s the goal of the dream?
Is it just to “wake up”? To transcend? To return to some higher state of truth?
Actually, no.
Chassidus teaches something radically different.
The goal is not for G‑d to wake up.The goal is for us to wake up inside the dream.
Dirah B’Tachtonim – A Home in the Lowest Place
Chassidus explains that the ultimate purpose of creation is called Dirah B’Tachtonim—a dwelling place in the lowest realm.
In other words:G‑d doesn’t want to abandon the dream. He wants to move in.
He wants this imagined, limited, chaotic, physical world to become His home. Not a dream He eventually exits—but a place where His infinite presence is revealed and welcomed from within.
Don’t Wake Up the Dreamer—Wake Up in the Dream
When you wake up from a dream, what happens to it?
Poof. It vanishes. The scenery, the people, the story—all gone.
So too, if G‑d were to "wake up" from this dream-like reality, everything we know—space, time, identity—would disappear. This is what death is, on a soul level: G‑d withdrawing the image of Himself from the dream.
But that’s not the goal. Not even heaven is the goal.
The goal is lucid dreaming.
Lucid Dreaming: The Deeper Metaphor
In psychology, lucid dreaming is when you're asleep and dreaming—but you realize that you're dreaming. And once you become aware, the dream changes. You gain control. You can transform a nightmare into a paradise.
This is exactly what Chassidus describes.
G‑d wants us—His dream-images—to become lucid. To realize that we are inside His dream. That we are part of Him.That we are not separate, not random, not helpless.
And from that awareness, to begin remaking the dream into something beautiful.
You Are the Dreamer Inside the Dream
G‑d could have created a perfect world from the start. But instead, He chose something better:To let the beauty emerge from within—to partner with us in transforming the dream itself.
You, the image of G‑d inside His dream, carry the power to awaken inside this story. To act not out of ego, but out of Divine awareness. To create light from darkness, meaning from struggle, love from disconnection.
This is why you were born. This is why the world exists.
