Let’s go back to that beach you imagined earlier.
You closed your eyes, and suddenly you were there—hearing the waves, feeling the sand, soaking up the sun. But if you look closely at that scene in your mind, you’ll realize something amazing happened.
There were actually two versions of you in that moment:
There was the real you—sitting in a chair, reading these words.
And there was the imagined you—walking the shoreline in your mental beach scene.
That second version of you wasn’t imaginary in the sense of being fake. It was you, just expressed in a different layer of your mind. It was a real extension of you—your thoughts, your emotions, your senses—projected into a different experience. For our purposes, we’ll call that second self the “image” of you. A version of you, within you, shaped by your imagination.
Now let’s take that metaphor and turn it back toward the bigger picture.
You Are the Image of G‑d—In His Own Mind
Earlier we explained that the universe exists within G‑d’s imagination. It is a thought, a dream, a living vision within the infinite Divine consciousness.
But now let’s go one step deeper.
It’s not just that the world is imagined by G‑d. You are too. But more than that—you’re not just a detail in the dream. You are G‑d in His own dream. Or more precisely, a projection of G‑d. An expression of Him within the context of creation.
You are the “image of G‑d” in His imagination.
Just like the “you” sitting on the beach existed inside your mind, G‑d places a version of Himself—His “image”—into the world He imagined, so He can experience that world from within. That version of Him is what we call the Divine soul. It’s not an outside creation—it’s an extension of His very Being.
This is your truest identity.
It’s the deepest part of you looking out through your eyes. It’s not a metaphor. It’s not poetic. It’s Chassidus. It’s literal.
But Wait—Does That Mean I’m G‑d?
No.
You are not G‑d. You didn’t create the world. You are not infinite. You are not outside of time and space.
But—in you, is truly a piece of G‑d. You are not Him in His totality—but you are of Him in reality.
There is a difference between being part of G‑d’s thought (like a tree or a chair), and being an actual extension of G‑d Himself (like the human soul). All creation exists within G‑d, but only the soul is an extension of G‑d, clothed in limitation.
So Is G‑d Limited to My Soul?
Also no.
G‑d chooses to experience reality through your soul—but He is not confined to it. He is not trapped in your perspective. He is not limited at all.
He is beyond all form, beyond all identity, beyond even the concept of “being beyond.” He created “concept” itself. He is the source of time, space, logic—and He transcends them all.
And yet, in His greatness, He chooses to be intimately present within you, experiencing the world through your life, your eyes, your actions. The Infinite within the finite. The Dreamer inside the dream.
See you in the next blog.
